Greencore Food to Go in Manton Wood, Nottinghamshire, has been part of an innovative new scheme, donating sandwiches to children without enough food.
The scheme targeted children in the Worksop area who relied on free school meals so they did not miss out during the holidays. Each child was given a free ‘snack pack’ with nutritional food including a sandwich every day.
The project was launched in partnership with Bassetlaw Food Bank, Nottinghamshire Country Council and Nottinghamshire Children and Families Partnership.
Allison Palmer, the Bassetlaw Food Bank Coordinator, said: “I can categorically say that without the commitment from Greencore, this pilot scheme would not have gone ahead.
Food Bank volunteers distributed the packs every day throughout the holidays from local Children’s Centres.
