For many young people getting involved in educational clubs outside school hours will feel like a drag, but one group of talented school pupils discovered that this can be fun!
The Selby College Young Engineers Club was created to challenge pupils aged 14-16 with an interest in Engineering, Science or Technology. The voluntary club was created to give students the opportunity to learn a variety of different skills from highly experienced staff. Greencore Grocery, Selby provided sponsorship via the Engineering Department that enabled them to successfully enter the Humber Bridge Soap Box Derby.
Wesley Sugden-Brook ( Site Engineering Manager) visited the pupils during their syllabus to offer an insight into careers and development opportunities in Engineering and Food Manufacturing and attended on the day to cheer on the team. Although it was a little wet, the Soapbox challenge was a great success.
Selby College’s Assistant Director of Engineering and Construction, Ian Muir said: “It was great to see students from all parts of Yorkshire and Humberside showing interest in Engineering and Science. The event gave Selby College Powerskills Department the opportunity to make young people aware of the excellent career opportunities available within engineering today.”
