Kiveton welcomed 24 first year undergraduates in BSc Food Science / Food Science & Nutrition accompanied by their academic staff on the 11th June.
Visit objectives included:
Gaining first exposure of what food factories look like and how they operate.
Allowing the students to contextualise their future study on food processes, safety and development
An insight to see if a career in manufacturing is of interest to them
After an initial company and factory capability overview presented by Michelle Laming, the students then toured the bakery and ready meals facility.
Rob Graham and his team of Jim O Malley, Jenna Ayre and Hannah Clark showed students around the ready meals factory highlighting CCP’s and retort technology.
Darren Haywood and his team of Adam Bennett and Steve McAughey showed students around the very busy quiche bakery facility. Lots of questions were asked!
The NPD team Of James Burgess, Nicola Currie, Becky Sparks and Helen Arlow than presented an overview of NPD in the Food Theatre. Using our Brand Little Dish ready meals illustrated depth of work required in product development.
Finally Rachel Hackett from central technical joined for a final presentation on the challenges within our industry and the breadth of skill required within manufacturing, finishing with an overview of the Greencore Technical Graduate Scheme.
