Earlier this year 2 colleagues, Miroslava and Bart, who have been part of the Greencore apprenticeship programme, volunteered to support Nottingham Trent university at the Nottingham Festival of Science and Technology, where they helped promote the wide range of careers you can have in the food industry.
The event, now in its 5th year, is designed to get young people, who might not normally get the opportunity to go to university, to get curious about science, technology, engineering and maths.
As well as Greencore sponsoring the event, Quality Assurance Auditor Miroslava Sucharova from Kiveton and Quality Assurance Manager Bart Kratiuk from Warrington, who have both been part of our Greencore Qualifications programme, attended on the day.
Sara Poulson, Course Leader at Nottingham Trent university, who was involved in organising the festival said: “Miroslava and Bart were brilliant. They worked their socks off all day, were wonderful with the youngsters (and their parents) and had clearly ensured they were completely up-to-speed with the science we were demonstrating. They were an absolute credit to Greencore and Nottingham Trent University.”
Over 7,500 people attended the event, which was run across 34 venues in the city. Our colleagues had fun entertaining the visitors with a range of interactive exercises based on food science. An extra bonus was that attending the event helped Miroslava and Bart score additional credits against the knowledge, skills and behaviours element of their apprenticeship standards module.
Group Learning & Development Manager Angela Edmonds said: “It’s great when we’re able to partner with external organisations in this way. Having our colleagues represent Greencore in the local community is an excellent way for us to attract talent, especially young people who can help build our future.
“Bart and Miroslava were able to showcase some of the things they’ve been learning in their Greencore qualifications and excite the visitors to our stand about the types of role they could have in a company like ours. I was so impressed with how involved they got that I subsequently put them forward for a Greencore Way award.”
