Colleagues, family and friends of Steve Coupland attended a celebratory event at the end of July, marking Steve’s 50 years of service at Greencore’s cooking sauce and pickle manufacturing site in Selby.
Steve joined the company following a visit to his school in July 1969 by Tommy Eady, Works Manager of the then named ‘Fletcher’s Sauce and Pickles’ in Barlby. Tommy was looking for people to join the factory team and the following Saturday Steve, along with some other school friends, went to the factory and got a job on the spot.
Steve has held a variety of roles throughout the years as the business continued to grow, including working as a fitter, warehouse loading, in the gatehouse, a delivery driver and most recently as Team Leader in Waste Management.
Through the past 50 years Steve has worked on a number of exciting products, and experienced many incidents and changes, including helping to rebuild the site following the catastrophic flooding nearly 20 years ago.
To celebrate this fantastic milestone a lunch was held at The Owl in Hambleton on 29th July – almost 50 years to the day since Steve joined the company. Guests included; family, friends, colleagues and former colleagues. Greencore Group Chief Operating Officer and Board Director, Peter Haden was also in attendance together with the Greencore Group HR Director, Guy Dullage and Selby Business Team Lead, Catherine Bradshaw.
Commenting on the event, Steve said: “The celebration was beyond anything I could have expected, and I am very grateful that everyone took the time to attend. It was great to be able to reflect on my 50 years with Greencore and spend time with family, friends and colleagues past and present. It was a very special day for me.”
