Each month we at Greencore shine the light on a specific topic as part of our ongoing communication to our colleagues on health and wellbeing. 8th March is International Women’s Day, so it seems fitting this month for our focus to be on women’s health.
Did you know?
- Women are more prone than men to heart disease – giving up smoking is one of the best things you can do, to reduce the chances of developing it
- Around 55,000 women and 370 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK. By checking yourself regularly, you’ll build confidence of knowing what’s normal for you
- The risk of ovarian cancer increases with age. There are now useful screening tests for ovarian cancer – consult your doctor if you have any new symptoms such as bloating, irregular bleeding or abdominal pain
- Women are more prone to sleep problems due to hormone levels that peak and dip – keeping the room temperature lower can make you more comfortable and improve sleep patterns
This month we are encouraging our colleagues to learn more about women’s health issues, how to improve their wellbeing and how they can support a female friend or family member in the this factsheet.
