At the end of November our team in Selby started planning their Christmas festivities. One of the things the colleagues wanted to do was give something back to the local community.
A member of the team recalled a Facebook appeal for second hand toys from an organisation called Spirit of Christmas Volunteers:
“Our Christmas project aims to provide toys for up to 1000 children in Selby this Christmas. IF anyone has an good quality toys (particularly for 6 to 10 year old) they would like to donate then we can collect at the Abbott’s Staith, Selby on Saturdays from 10am till 1pm until the 28th November. We would also appreciate donations of batteries for toys.”
The Greencore team donated £350 to buy new toys for the charity and some of our very generous colleagues also donated additional new and preloved toys.
Over the next three weeks parents from 300 local families will be able to go along to the Spirit of Christmas grotto and choose a present for their child/children. They will be given wrapping paper to take away and on Christmas morning they will have happy children knowing that Santa has visited them and left a gift!
We hope to help Spirit of Christmas in their fundraising events at Easter and Halloween next year, to help families in the area who are less fortunate than us.
