The Greencore team in Boston were thrilled and proud to have four of their products announced as winners at this year’s The Grocer New Own Label Awards.
The winners were announced at a virtual awards ceremony on Friday 15 October, and they celebrated the vital role that the own-brand grocery sector plays in shaping the market and adapting to the shopper needs.
Chilled Winner
Co-op Irresistible Garden Steamer
Part of Co-op’s Irresistible range, this product was created for a premium audience to complement all meal occasions, from a BBQ to a winter warmer. Judges praised its fantastic fresh flavoured vegetables, which stay “crunchy” and “wonderfully crisp” when cooked, as well as the “slight citrus flavour” from the lemon, which “really cut through, without being too overpowering” and the roasted garlic flavour.

Aldi Specially Selected Ready to Eat Meals – Chicken Shawarma with Cous Cous
Featuring cooked mixed grains with shawarma-style smoked cooked chicken thigh slices and vegetables, this product impressed our expert judges with its attractive appearance, recyclable packaging and good balance of flavours. Although it can be eaten hot, judges preferred it cold as it had better crunch, they said, and the flavours popped more.
Sustainability Winner
Tesco Beautifully Balanced Hot Smoked Salmon with a Creamy Lemon Sauce
Hailed by judges as a “real grown-up ready meal”, our Sustainability winner is part of Tesco’s first ready meal range in new, innovative, paper-based recyclable packaging. Packed full of hot smoked salmon, as well as sweet potato, butter beans and broccoli in a creamy lemon sauce with kale, it also delivered on taste and was described as “fresh, filling and nutritious” by our judges.
