The Greencore manufacturing site in Manton Wood has set up a partnership with Worksop secondary school, Outwood Academy Valley to raise awareness of the breadth of career opportunities in the food manufacturing industry.
The Greencore site produces millions of sandwiches each week and supplies some of the UK’s largest supermarkets.
Commenting on the partnership, Ed Rowland, General Manager at Greencore said; “We have a proud history of being a major employer in Worksop and we have several generations from the same families working with us. But what people aren’t always aware of is the number of exciting and different roles available within our industry.
“At Greencore, we invest in developing our people and creating career pathways and training opportunities, and this is why we feel that it is so important that we work closely with the local community and specifically Outwood Academy Valley.
“In April, representatives from Greencore visited the school and held a talk on careers in the food industry and at the end of June 13 students, together with three teachers, came to our site to meet the team and take part in a factory tour. The trip was rounded off with a specially designed creativity workshop, where the students designed their own sandwiches. Everyone had a great time and we look forward to further visits over the coming months.”
Greencore is already planning further activities with Outwood Academy Valley for the 2022-23 school year and is looking forward to welcoming more students to the site.
