Three colleagues from Greencore Grocery in Hull recently visited a primary school near Leeds as part of Tesco’s ‘Farm to Fork – Eat Happy Project’.
The colleagues went to Thorp Arch Primary to talk to the children about where their birthday and celebration cakes come from and how they are made. Class Two were extremely excited to talk about all things cake, giving some very sensible answers to questions about the baking process, ingredients and PPE.
Miniature overalls were provided, hairnets and oven gloves and even a couple of snoods for two boys who had aspirations of growing beards many years from now.
The children had been working on simple mathematical problems using numbers up to 100 so a test was put in place using actual information from the Hull site. It was pleasing to see the children enjoy a maths test disguised as a fun activity brought to them by people who make cakes and chocolate cream all day!
