Greencore Grocery in Hull was delighted to work with Hull University Business School’s, Dr Fannie Yeung to encourage her students to be creative and research the market for a new dessert. The best seven teams presented their concepts to members of the Greencore team.
Dr Yeung said: ‘The presentation day provided a remarkable experience for our students. They had the opportunity to pitch their concepts and marketing plans to a highly discerning panel of judges from Greencore, as well as academics from the Business School.
‘The variety of approaches was impressive – one team even created a song to highlight the health benefits of their dessert. Of course, this was well received by everyone and we renamed our musician, Joshua, as ‘Ed Sheeran’ for the day!’
Congratulations to winners, Beth Atkinson and William James, for their winning concept.
Beth said: ‘William and I both really enjoyed this project. We worked on creating the dessert and then had to write the script and present the concept together. It is a great way to get experience of working as a team as well as developing our presenting skills that will help us in the future.’
Greencore Grocery’s marketing controller, David Leigh, said: ‘We were extremely impressed by the creativity of the students – particularly as they are in the first year of their degree.
‘We are delighted to be able to offer two internships this Summer to enable students to further develop their business skills and commercial experience.’
Joshua Ford also deserves a mention for his innovative approach – writing and performing a song to highlight the health benefits of his concept.
