The team at local food manufacturer Greencore have partnered with two causes in their community, lending their support in time for what can be a demanding Christmas season.
The first is Gussie’s Kitchen, the community food project currently supporting 300 households in Chesterfield. Throughout December, the 80-strong Greencore team, which is based in Barlborough, collected food, warm clothes and toiletries to support the people in the local community who turn to Gussie’s when they are struggling to feed and clothe their families.
The Greencore team delivered four trolley-loads of essentials in mid-December.
Gilly Zariffis, the senior HR advisor at Greencore who organised the collection drive, said: “It was an honour to be able to support such a worthwhile charity at this time of year.
“Our colleagues chose Gussie’s because we know of the brilliant work they do. I’m proud to be part of such a generous team.”
The second cause that the Greencore team have chosen to support is Norbriggs Primary School, in Mastin Moor near Chesterfield.
To help with their Christmas activities, the team donated a hamper of Greencore-manufactured food to the school Christmas raffle. They also helped make the annual trip to the Christmas panto possible by donating packed lunches for 120 children.
Gilly said: “We’ve been lucky enough to spend some time with the kids from Norbriggs and, for us, it’s been an absolute pleasure. The school have written to their pupils’ parents and carers to tell them that Greencore have ‘adopted’ them and we couldn’t be prouder that they chose those words.
“As well as the support for the Christmas activities, our team have fundraised £150 for the school’s climbing fund frame and given them some building blocks to help with the STEM education of the younger children.
“And we can’t wait to do more with them in the new year.”
